Jack’s Box

The saying “big things come in small packages” could not be truer for Jack Pharaoh, a thirteen-year-old young man from Greybull, Wyoming. Jack may have spent a considerably less amount of time on this earth than the average founder of a non-profit, but that does not mean he’s any less giving or empathetic. Jack is the founder of Jack’s Box, and has been fighting hunger for over five years already, starting at the ripe age of eight years old!

Jack’s Box provides food for people in three cities across Wyoming- Greybull, Worland, and Basin. At eight years old, Jack saw a need when he was traveling to Salt Lake City, Utah, with his mother and witnessed food insecurity up close in the city. He put his passion to action and started serving his community that same year, and has not stopped!

How does a young man fund a non-profit? Jack runs his own concession stand selling shaved ice and light-up toys, which provide him with the funds to found his organization. Jack travels with his mom to Casper to pick up food from the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies as well. They shared that the CFAP produce boxes, which are part of a new program for COVID-19 relief, have been a unanimous favorite in the communities he helps, especially considering they have seen an increased need since the pandemic.

Jack’s service does not stop with Jack’s Box, he also currently adopts kids to provide presents during Christmas time, participates in a program to help veterans and their families stay on their feet, gives Christmas and family meals, and is involved in so much more.

His service plans don’t stop here, he has future goals as well. He hopes to be an author when he grows up so he can send books to children in underdeveloped countries who can’t go to school.

Jack’s mom, Misty, shared her favorite story of Jack when he first started. The distribution happens outside of Jack’s home for the most part, and one family came when there was no more meat left to distribute. Jack’s heart went out to this family and without a moment’s hesitation looked at his mom and ran inside to grab meat from their personal freezer. This story is the perfect illustration of how big Jack’s heart is, and how he sees a need and meets a need.

Age is not a prerequisite for being a hunger hero and Jack Pharaoh is the perfect example. His dedication and determination to serve this state is inspiring, and can be seen as a beacon of hope in these uncertain times. Thank you, Jack for all you do to help, and thank you Misty for raising a servant minded individual!
