It’s no secret that access to a grocery store isn’t a guarantee in many Wyoming communities. In places like Medicine Bow, population 236, the nearest place to stock up on food and necessities is an hour away — an insurmountable distance for folks who have limited access to transportation and for anyone when the weather decides to rear its head.
It’s in communities like this that our Hunger Relief Partners play an irreplaceable role in nourishing our neighbors. At Medicine Bow Food Pantry, residents like Cindy can easily access the food they need to thrive. Cindy is an older adult and lives with her mother, who recently fell and broke her hip. Even though she is recovering well, it’s difficult for Cindy’s mom to be home alone, and Cindy relies on the pantry both for food and camaraderie.
“It’s such a community space, where people can catch up and have fun,” shared Cindy. “It’s nice that we can come here and just get one little package or one lemon — get what you need for a recipe or all the things you need for a week.”
