The team here at Food Bank of Wyoming is regretful to share that Tony Woodell will be stepping down from his role as Director of Food Bank of Wyoming effective December 31, 2021.
Tony led this organization during a critical time where we saw the need for food assistance across Wyoming increase dramatically. A tireless and passionate supporter of ending hunger in Wyoming, we are honored to have worked alongside him. And we will miss his leadership, energy, and kind spirit. We wish him all the best as he enjoys more quality time with his family.
As a search for new executive leadership at Food Bank of Wyoming is underway, the work continues. One in eight Wyomingites face hunger, and we are working harder than ever to ensure every Wyoming neighbor has enough food to eat each and every day. In fiscal year 2021, we distributed over 13 million pounds of food. That’s a 12% increase over the previous year and 33% over two years ago. And we are not slowing down!
To meet this increased need, we are now purchasing more food than ever, including truckloads of fresh fruits and vegetables which now comprise 1/3 of all food distributed. In addition, we are striving to ensure that much of the food we purchase aligns with the mission of our Culturally Responsive Food Initiative, which aims to provide clients with culturally respectful foods. And we are continuing to expand signature efforts like our Mobile Pantry program to serve Wyomingites when and where they need us most.
As we look ahead to 2022, Food Bank of Wyoming will be here for as long as we are needed, staying steadfast in our commitment to igniting the power of community to nourish people facing hunger.
As always, thank you for your dedication to ending hunger across Wyoming. Together, we are stronger, and together, we can nourish every Wyoming neighbor in need.
