Hunger Action Month is Here!

It's September and you know what that means! At Food Bank of Wyoming, we take action against hunger in our community every day, week, and month of the year. With September being Hunger Action Month®, we’re extending this call to action to each of you.

Some ways you can take action this month:

1. Raise your voice for community members experiencing food insecurity

No one should have to worry about where their next meal is going to come from. Members of Congress make key decisions about the federal nutrition programs that directly impact our neighbors suffering from hunger. Reach out to your senators and representative and ask them to say “yes” to policies that will put more food on more tables.

2. Create a Hunger Action Month food/fund drive for your pantry

Connect to people and organizations in your community that can help provide nourishing food for our Wyoming neighbors facing food insecurity. Whether it's dollars or shelf-stable goods, every little bit helps.

3. Join Food Bank of Wyoming's Hunger Action Month Proclamation in your town!

Food Bank of Wyoming is hitting the road this September for Hunger Action Month.

We would to connect with you as we are out and about. We want to hear from you and what you are experiencing in your community and share our efforts to help our neighbors in need.

Updated Route Schedules are Coming!

Fall is approaching and Food Bank of Wyoming has created the delivery route schedules for our statewide distribution period of October 2024 to March 2025. Delivery dates and order deadlines for the month of September have already been provided to you and will remain unchanged.

Planning around holidays will be notated in the schedules that are impacted by Thanksgiving and Christmas, and there are a few changes to some of the schedules. In an effort to continue providing exceptional service throughout the entire state, some of our regular routes and smaller express routes are being consolidated.

Any partner impacted by these changes will be notified by the programs team prior to these changes taking effect.

The updated schedules will be emailed directly to partners the week of September 2, so keep an eye out! Schedules will also be available on our website after copies have been emailed.

Preparing for the Holidays

It’s already starting to feel like fall out there and the holidays will be upon us before you know it! Here at Food Bank of Wyoming, we're already thinking about what we hope to have on hand to support our Hunger Relief Partners' needs as you work to nourish your communities during the 2024 holiday season. If there is something specific you are hoping to see in our inventory, please reach out to the Help Desk team at 307-265-2172 or send us an email helpdesk@wyomingfoodbank.org.

Partner Highlight: Crook County Council of County Services

For more than three decades, whether their need has been short-lived or less temporary, residents of Crook County have known they can count on the Crook County food pantry for a helping hand.

Founded and still run today by the Crook County Council of County Services, the Crook County Food Pantry has served thousands of community members since 1989, from people experiencing homelessness or a loss of a job to older adults and young children.

But while the mission has never changed, the pantry is not the same in every aspect as it was back in 1989. Its location has been consolidated to a single pantry in Sundance, which has made a huge difference to its efficiency and streamlined both services and staffing. The pantry has also grown over the years. The pandemic and economic difficulties, as well as a significant increase to Crook County's population, have left more residents experiencing food insecurity than ever.

This led the Council to expand the range and quantity of food available and to also include fresh fruits and vegetables, partly through the assistance of Food Bank of Wyoming. When winter comes, community members know they can also rely on the pantry to find a warm coat and hat.

The Crook County Food Pantry also extends its hand to other local organizations that share its mission to end hunger within the community. It provides funding to charitable organizations that promote awareness and help youth and older adults in the area, such as Blessings in a Backpack, Post Prom, and sporting organizations that serve underprivileged children.

Just as the pantry supports the county, the community has always rallied to help its pantry continue to flourish. Local donations have formed the bedrock of its funding, ranging from large-scale assistance from partners such as Powder River Energy, Crook County School District, the Church of Latter Day Saints, and Sundance State Bank to smaller — but equally important —donations from individuals, schools, and churches.

The pantry is also associated with Food Bank of Wyoming, the Wyoming Hunger Initiative, and the Grow and Little Extra program through the University of Wyoming Extension Office.

Countless families have benefited from the pantry over the years and will continue to do so into the future. The Crook County Food Pantry’s proudest achievement has been its consistency. As our community continues to grow, the pantry will continue to be a reliable source of support, whenever and for however long it may be needed.

This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

Food Bank of Wyoming aspires to meet individuals where they are with the foods they need based on their unique circumstances and culture. We show up for any person experiencing hunger knowing that food insecurity can impact any of us at various points in our lives. Today, we may be packing produce for a person facing an unforeseen health crisis and tomorrow we may be providing a weekend food bag to a child whose caregiver may be struggling to find a well-paying job. The circumstances may be different, but we never waver from our mission of igniting the power of community to nourish people facing hunger.
