On September 21, team members at Food Bank of Wyoming, in partnership with the James C. Hageman Sustainable Agriculture Research and Extension Center (SAREC) and UW Cent$ible Nutrition Program, attended the annual potato dig just outside Lingle, Wyoming. Over 11,800 pounds of Wyoming-grown potatoes were harvested at the research fields.

With a deep rose skin and gold flesh, the potatoes harvested are the Carla Rosa variety. Food Bank of Wyoming is already distributing these potatoes to our Hunger Relief Partners across the state. The distribution of this fresh, local produce helps Food Bank of Wyoming further our mission to nourish people in Wyoming who face hunger. The local partnerships of the potato harvest make this a meaningful collaboration, while reducing the burden of hunger in Wyoming.

Soup Season is Here 

One of the best parts of fall and winter is a nice warm bowl of soup, right? Food Bank of Wyoming will be distributing some key produce and shelf-stable items to make all your favorite savory soups, and we want to remind our valued Hunger Relief Partners about our partnership with the UW Cent$ible Nutrition Program. 

With educators across the state, they have nutrition and food preparation education classes and an incredible variety of recipes on their website. Including....recipes for SOUP!

Partner Highlight: Food Bank of Sweetwater County

Food Bank of Sweetwater County has two food distribution sites, Green River and Rock Springs. The doors of the Green River Food Pantry opened on February 17, 1987. The first 'official' food distribution in Rock Springs was held in January 1988.

The Food Bank started with a small amount of non-perishable food. At the time, they only had the capacity to store non-perishable food items. Now, they can store and distribute fresh and frozen food in addition to non-perishable food. They’ve had more fresh and frozen food available thanks to their partnership with Food Bank of Wyoming.

Food Bank of Sweetwater County is a United Way Community Partner. They are also the host site of the United Way Community Diaper Bank; diapers are distributed twice monthly at both locations. Over the years, they have grown from helping around 200 families a month to now helping around 600 families each month.

Thanks to their partnership with Food Bank of Wyoming, Food Bank of Sweetwater County has been able to procure more food to meet the needs of their community. This is all made possible through partnership with Food Bank of Wyoming, United way, and the support of the community and volunteers.
