Pack the Snacks: It's Learning Season!

Back-to-School Meal Budgeting Tips for our Neighbors

1. Make a list of everything you need and shop ahead of time. Planning meals for the week means you do not have to rely on more expensive convenience foods or eating out. This also allows you to keep an eye out for special deals, use coupons, and save trips to the grocery store. Click to view our two-week menu plan for more ideas.

2. Find favorite after-school snacks. Fruits and vegetables are simple solutions for after-school snacks. Keep whole, fresh fruits like apples and bananas easily available on the table or countertop. Fruits and vegetables like melons, carrots, and celery can be cut and portioned ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator. Portioning them into single-serving sizes makes for simple solutions for after-school snacking. Canned fruit in light syrup, 100% juice, or frozen fruit are also great longer-lasting options.

3. Look for other ways to save on food expenses. Consider enrolling your child to receive breakfast and lunch at school. The National School Lunch Program must meet federal requirements for nutrition that include standards for milk, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, so you know your children are receiving a nutritious meal. Participating in free or reduced-cost meal programs means less worrying about preparing or paying for breakfast and/or lunch and more money left in the home food budget.

 Important Dates & Reminders

September 1     Labor Day - Food Bank of Wyoming closed*

*all truck routes reflect any necessary changes to accommodate this event.

Food Bank of Wyoming requires all partners to complete the Food Safety and Civil Rights training courses on an annual basis.

These sessions help to ensure that neighbors facing hunger receive only nutritious, safe-to-consume food (Food Safety) and that each food distribution is fair and equitable throughout our communities (Civil Rights). Courses are available in both English and Spanish.

Each person with an existing training account has been enrolled in both courses (English versions). Once you log into the training platform, NeoGov, you will see both courses on the home tab under “Tasks.” Here you can click “Start,” “Resume,” or “Drop.”

Who should complete these training courses?

The main contact and/or supervisor/director for the partner should take these training courses, in addition to those involved in direct pantry or distribution services. This also includes volunteers or staff who deem neighbors eligible or ineligible for all food distribution programs, including but not limited to TEFAP and Evergreen (CSFP).

Do I need to take the training again? I just completed it!

Any person who has taken the course on or after April 1, 2025, will not need to retake it until next year.

I can’t find my log-in — how do I get my password?

Visit our Partner Portal for instructions on how to reset your password: wyomingfoodbank.org/partner-portal/partner-training/

Where do I find the courses?

Visit our Partner Portal for instructions and to access the online course platform, NeoGov: wyomingfoodbank.org/partner-portal/partner-training/

We are here to support you! If you do not have an online training account or have any questions about these courses or requirements, please reach out to helpdesk@wyomingfoodbank.org.

Thank you for your cooperation in completing these important annual training courses. Please have them completed as soon as possible — the deadline is August 31.

Food Bank of Wyoming would like to express our gratitude and say farewell to Myrna Vafee!

Myrna was the receptionist at Food Bank of Wyoming for three-and-a-half years and will be greatly missed by not only her co-workers but by our volunteers!

Her last day worked was July 18. Please direct all communication going forward to the Help Desk Team: helpdesk@wyomingfoodbank.org

Celebrate National Watermelon Day with Your Family!

August 3 is National Watermelon Day!

It is no coincidence that this day is celebrated in the hottest month of the year. Because watermelons are 92% water, they make the perfect snack for the warm weather.

Fun Facts:

  • According to Guinness World Records, the world's heaviest watermelon was grown by Chris Kent of Sevierville, Tennessee, in 2013, weighing 350.5 lbs!
  • You can eat the entire watermelon! Watermelon rinds are mostly discarded, but they are actually edible and full of nutrients with great health benefits.
  • Watermelons come in many varieties! In fact, there are 1,200 different watermelon varieties, but the four main classifications are seeded, seedless, yellow, and icebox.

Food Bank of Wyoming aspires to meet individuals where they are with the foods they need based on their unique circumstances and culture. We show up for any person experiencing hunger knowing that food insecurity can impact any of us at various points in our lives. Today, we may be packing produce for a person facing an unforeseen health crisis and tomorrow we may be providing a weekend food bag to a child whose caregiver may be struggling to find a well-paying job. The circumstances may be different, but we never waver from our mission of igniting the power of community to nourish people facing hunger.
